AirlineRatings has once again announced the world’s best airline in 2022, and three American airlines made the list.

On Thursday, the editors of the airline ranking website released their top 20 airlines based on several factors, including safety, innovation, passenger comfort, service and employee engagement.

“We are focused on leadership and airlines that are innovating to make a real difference to the passenger experience,” AirlineRatings Editor-in-Chief Jeffrey Thomas said in a press release. “But the airline industry is currently under unprecedented pressure as it tries to recover from the worst of the Covid-19 pandemic.”

Best Airlines In India

In first place is Doha-based Qatar Airways, which also won in 2021. The company is consistently at the top and airline ranking website Skytrax has named it the best airline for the past year.

Airline Ratings announced that Qatar was named the world’s best airline for its “innovation in cabins, passenger services and its commitment to remain operational through the Covid pandemic”.

Air New Zealand (ANZ) was ranked second behind Qatar for its “continuous innovation and industry leadership”. The airline also took second place in 2021, but took first place in 2020.

Other airlines from the Middle East including Etihad Airways and Emirates were also included in the list of top 20 companies. Etihad came third and also won the award for best green airline for its Boeing 787 “Greenliner”. The airline unveiled its new Airbus A350-1000 under the name Sustainability50 in March as part of its environmental initiatives.

US airlines ranked in the top 20 in 2022 are JetBlue Airways, Hawaiian Airlines and Alaska Airlines. JetBlue did not make the list last year. However, Delta Air Lines and United Airlines dropped out of the top 20 this year after coming in at number 19 and number eight respectively in 2021.

Southwest Airlines didn’t make the top 10 because it’s a low-cost airline, but AirlineRatings named it the best low-cost airline in America.

Based in London, British Airways is the national airline of Great Britain and has flights to Europe, America, Africa, Asia and Australia.

Alaska Airlines is an American airline based in Seattle, Washington. The airline primarily flies on the west coast, but has a transatlantic service to destinations such as New York. The operator merged with Virgin America in 2016.

Air France and KLM merged in 2004 to become one company, although both still operate under their respective brands. The airline offers extensive networks across Europe, Africa, Asia, the Middle East and the Americas.

At the bottom of the top five list is Singapore Airlines, one of the largest operators of the A380 jumbo jet. The airline flies an extensive network across Asia, North America, Australia, Europe, Africa and the Middle East. AirlineRatings also gave Singapore awards for having the best first class lounges and the best lounges in the world.

Seoul-based Korean Air is the flagship of South Korea and flies a strong domestic and international network. Airline Rating announced Korea as the cargo airline of the year.

Etihad Airways was ranked third this year after barely making it into the top 20 last year. Skytrax has announced the world’s 100 best airlines for 2021, with Qatar Airways retaining its top spot for the second consecutive year and sixth time since 2001.

UK-based Skytrax on Tuesday announced the much-anticipated 2021 World Airline Awards, dubbed the “Oscars of airlines”. Prices are based on customer surveys collected over 23 months, from September 2019 to July 2021, and include a mix of regular and peak travel times. While the pandemic changed airline rankings from 2019, a handful of major airlines still held top rankings.
