FCCLA is adapting to the current COVID-19 crisis by participating in national leadership conferences. At a typical SLC event, students will have an awards ceremony, dance with other FCCLAs at Nevada State, and have the opportunity to present their activities live. “Honestly, I wish I had the chance to give,” junior Francisca Ramirez said. “This is my first year at FCCLA and the state meet, and from what I’ve seen, it’s really fun. I joined FCCLA so I can participate in these events, so this time will be a little different, but I’m still happy. here. It’s tougher, we have as many students as possible,” said junior Brooke Young, vice president of athletics. “The state is a little different, but the same experience. Preparing for these events is part of being at FCCLA, so while we’re sad that we can’t attend ourselves, we still want to make the most of what we have. To prepare, students will work in groups for similar events to ensure success by asking questions and helping each other through the process. “Collaboration is a big part of what we do,” says Young. “Even though it’s a lot of private activity, it’s easier to do it when you can compare with people, ask questions and work with each other.” All activities will be after school from March 8th to March 10th so students will not miss a lesson. “FCCLA is a great experience,” said FCLLA advisor Shannon Sheldon. “What we’re doing online is no different. At the end of the day, we want to teach students these leadership and public speaking skills, which is what they want to achieve. Although not close. Do you state the FCCLA? Yes, I do, No, I don’t. The result is sound

At the FCCLA State Conference in Minnesota, March 28-30, GMR FCCLA students Elizabeth Guss and Morgan Reed discovered the opportunity to attend the National FCLLA Leadership Conference in Anaheim, California, June 30-4. message, they first mentioned their work in seeing a chapter member who was both successful: Christian Christian.

“We cried (when we heard Chance’s name), we were so happy for him,” Gus said.

“All season long, all he (Chance) talked about was, ‘Yeah, I can’t wait to go to state, I can’t wait to go to nationals, I can’t wait to do this,'” Reid said. “And I’m like, ‘Man, I’m trying to stay ahead of everything … He’s got the whole (cross-country) tour planned before we even go to state.’ So, to hear his name, Chance is one of the hardest workers on our team, he works hard and makes others happy.”

As a mentor for GMR FCCLA, Laura Dahl sees the overall success of her chapter given how much she puts into their programs.

According to Medlineplus.gov, Reid created a project inspired by his sister, who attended Food Innovation, and has celiac disease, a disease in which “people can’t eat gluten because their small intestines are damaged.” With this inspiration, Reed created a gluten-free snack: Krispy Pops—small crispy balls on a stick. These rice krispie balls are even more decorative when you hang them on a stick, says Reid.

“I decided to make brownies at first, but brownies without glue weren’t very good, and I realized I wasn’t good at making them,” Reed said. “My sister was living in Wyoming at the time, so she couldn’t help me much, but she moved to Minnesota and she actually made rice pudding one day, and I was like, ‘Oh my God, that’s it.’ Good idea.

She added a little butter to her rice krispie recipe to make them cool. These foods contain corn syrup with corn syrup because it contains corn syrup gluten. Reid explains that despite the differences, its treatment is similar to that of a regular rice cooker.

Competing in the “Profession Exploration” theme, Gus realized he was a musician and decided to look deeper into the industry. He researched what to do during his high school and college years about this career path. As part of the project, he also visited his aunt Melanie Moss Wilson, a musician with a band in the Twin Cities.

“It would be fun to go to a good conservatory like Juilliard or something,” Gus says. “But I think if it’s not a good fit, there are a lot of other universities like BSU (in) Bemidji that have good music programs.”
