Few comedy series premiere in a blaze of glory and eventually lose some of their luster — the premise jokes weren’t enough to sustain more than five episodes, or the writing of Season 2 never lived up to the promise of Season 1. It didn’t land That’s why it’s so satisfying to watch the Season 4 finale of What We Do in the Shadows and know that it’s a series well on its way to becoming an iconic FX hit.
What We Do In The Shadows Season 4 Finale Erases An Era
FX isn’t a network known for hasty cancellations, with many of its shows running as long as producers want to keep them going (which means four seasons for Atlanta and endless seasons for It’s Always Sunny and Philadelphia ). But it was still interesting when the network announced earlier this year that Shadows had been renewed for Seasons 5 and 6 — the seasons we now see following the events of “Sunrise, Sunset.” There’s a lot of story potential . .
At first, you might not have thought this would happen with “Sunrise, Sunset,” since it’s largely focused on resetting the biggest events of Season 4. It involves Nadja (Natasia Demetrio) giving up her failed vampire bar, but more importantly, “the creature that made its way out of the abdominal cavity of dead Colin Robinson” (Mark Prokush) as she completes her journey to adulthood. Well, we’re basically reincarnated in Season 1 as an energy vampire dressed in Met West.
While the finale is still committed to these changes, it’s less about leaving the past behind and making room for new storytelling opportunities. For example, Colin Robinson may be somewhat normal, although there are no memories of his second childhood in the care of Lazlo (Matt Berry) – something that may have had an emotional payoff for their relationship.

Season 4 in the US, UK, Canada and Australia. Oh, and maybe Guillermo (Harvey Guillen) too.
Jemaine Clement, has gained a huge cult following and critical acclaim since its release in 2019. Not only that, the show has already been given the green signal for seasons five and six. This is not surprising, as the seemingly crude, laugh-out-loud and awkward portrayal of the vampire leads is perfectly captured in the mocking style of filming. If you’re new to the show, take photos of the camera crew
The four are tasked with making a documentary about slice-of-life, modern-day Staten Island, rude, stupid, Luddite bloodsuckers—and if that doesn’t pique your interest, I don’t know what will.
